Harassment Voice Mails and Phones calls from Capital One. Are you tired of being called 4-5 times a day by Capital One. Many Users are not even a Capital One card member, do not owe them money, and are on the National Do Not Call List. Capital One doesn't even know your name when they call you. Most likely you have no link to Capital One except for your phone number. If you too are being harassed by Capital One then you know what I am taking about. For others an automated voice message is left on your answering machine once a day. Linda says: "Hi. This is Linda. We have some opportunities that can be available to you at Capital One. Please call me back today at 1(800) 955-6600 to discuss them. Thank you." *** What is strange, if you call Capital One, they tend to act like they do not know what your talking about, since this has been going on for almost 4 months I would assume they have hundreds of callers calling in asking for Linda. They have no idea who linda is / reporting this scam results in we will let our supervisor know. Honestly I have not idea what the Phishing scam will gain out of this as the calling line id they use is in fact from Capital One and they note to call a valid 800 number back. Best thing you can do is sign up for Google Voice and use the blocking feature. Here is Capital One's Calling Line ID's - Block or report these to your local carrier to block inbound calls from these numbers: Capital One Phone Numbers These are the numbers that this phishing scam for Capital One will use as the calling line id. Automatic Telephone Dialing Systems and Artificial or Prerecorded Voice Calls The FCC has specific rules for automatic telephone dialing systems, also known as “autodialers.” These devices can be particularly annoying and generate many consumer complaints. The rules regarding automatically dialed and prerecorded calls apply whether or not you have registered your home phone number(s) on the national Do-Not-Call list. Autodialers can produce, store, and dial telephone numbers using a random or sequential number generator. They often place artificial (computerized) or prerecorded voice calls. The use of autodialers, including predictive dialers, often results in abandoned calls – hang-ups or “dead air.” Except for emergency calls or calls made with the prior express consent of the person being called, autodialers and any artificial or prerecorded voice messages may not be used to contact numbers assigned to: any emergency telephone line; the telephone line of any guest or patient room at a hospital, health care facility, home for the elderly, or similar establishment; a paging service, wireless phone service (including both voice calls and text messages), or other commercial mobile radio service; or any other service for which the person being called would be charged for the call. Calls using artificial or prerecorded voice messages – including those that do not use autodialers – may not be made to home phone numbers except for: emergency calls needed to ensure the consumer’s health and safety; calls for which you have given prior express consent; non-commercial calls; calls that don’t include or introduce any unsolicited advertisements or constitute telephone solicitations; calls by, or on behalf of, tax-exempt non-profit organizations; or calls from entities with which you have an EBR. In addition, the FCC’s rules prohibit the use of autodialers in a way that ties up two or more lines of a multi-line business at the same time. All artificial or prerecorded telephone messages must state, at the beginning, the identity of the business, individual, or other entity that is responsible for initiating the call. If a business is responsible for initiating the call, the name under which the entity is registered to conduct business with the State Corporation Commission (or comparable regulatory authority) must be stated. During or after the message, the caller must give the telephone number (other than that of the autodialer or prerecorded message player that placed the call) of the business, other entity, or individual that made the call so that you can call during regular business hours to ask that the company no longer call you. The number provided may not be a 900 number or any other number for which charges exceed local or long distance charges. Autodialers that deliver a recorded message must release the called party’s telephone line within five seconds of the time that the calling system receives notification that the called party’s line has hung up. In some areas, you could experience a delay before you can get a dial tone again. Your local telephone company can tell you if there is a delay in your area. Telemarketers must ensure that predictive dialers abandon no more than three percent of all calls placed and answered by a person. A call will be considered "abandoned" if it is not transferred to a live sales agent within two seconds of the recipient's greeting. http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/tcpa.html |

So now it appears that this is a collection agency out of India / I always just let the call go and it is always the same thing, This is Linda from Capital One, call us back related to an important business matter. So I answered the call this time, sure enough long pause then connected to what sounds like a boiler room call center, lady spoke with a broken accent did not say whom she was and asked from someone I never heard of , then they hung up. So it seems Capital One hired a collection firm in India that has a populated database of a bunch of phone numbers that "do not" related to having any issues with there charge cards / and this is a classic case of harassment, calling at least once per day. The only contact I have ever received from them is the relentless calls with the recording "Hi this is Linda and I have a special offer for you" and when you answer, you get put on hold until a CSR picks up the line. Here is dialog from another report on the net... From what I understand, they are a call center in Inda and they are going to try to get me on a payment plan. In order to reach a settlement with them, does it do me any good to talk to them? Should I call them back or should I try a different number? I have received a couple of form letters from Cap One, but they only state that it will ruin my credit if I don't make a payment by such and such a date. The number to call on that letter is also the same 1-800 number that Linda leaves. *** The issue at hand / is if you block all these numbers, then if you really are a good client of Capital One , they will not be able to reach you... Perhaps time to cancel your Capital One Charge Cards? I called Capital One and they pretty much act like they dont really know or why your getting called as each time , they say - you have outstanding history with us. So clear case of a dbase of phone numbers that are incorrect in many cases. |
